Attendance Count Makes Fan Feel Like He Matters

Following his team’s victory last night, Los Angeles Lakers super fan Gregg Jansen felt a wave of pride wash over him as the Staples Center video board displayed the paid attendance figure, a direct acknowledgement of Jansen’s patronage.

“That 18,593 includes me. They know I’m here,” Jansen said, later taking to Facebook to tell his friends and family of his accomplishment. “I’m not one of those guys who’s in it for the stats, but it does feel nice to have my contribution recognized.”

“But it wasn’t just me. The whole arena came together to help pull this one out,” said the 43-year-old boom operator, who raced home after the final buzzer to see whether the attendance count had been posted online yet. “We’re just happy the players came out to support us.”

While Jansen was clearly satisfied the franchise noting his presence on the scoreboard, he was even more enthralled with the free Lakers magnet schedule sponsored by Delta Airlines that was specifically awarded to him when he entered the arena.
