Celebrity Sighting! Drake Spotted Watching Girls’ Volleyball Game From Under Bleachers
Volleyball spectators at Carey High School in Buffalo, NY were given a rare treat this past Thursday, as it was discovered midway through the second game of a Junior Varsity girls’ volleyball match that Canadian rap superstar and avid sports fan Drake was surveilling the game from underneath the home team’s bleachers.
“At first I thought I was just feeling the indoor heater,” said volleyball parent Anne McEachern, who was the first to discover the talented Grammy Award-winner after bending down and spotting the singer’s intensely focused eyes staring at her 15-year-old daughter, Kayleigh. “But then I looked down and I was like, ‘Holy crap! That’s Drake breathing heavily on my legs!’”
Spectators soon rushed the area where the 36-year-old rapper was shrouded in darkness, but while he was happy to take a few selfies with the players’ friends and younger sisters, Drake was insistent that everyone ignore him and stay focused on the “impressive form” of the 15-to-17-year-old athletes that he had come to support that day.
“A few people asked him why he didn’t offer to sing the national anthem, but he kept saying the eyes shouldn’t be on him; that all eyes deserved to be on those young girls,” said Carey High’s coach, Michael Woodcote, who noted the rapper also kept respectfully silent except to occasionally comment “Goddamn!” whenever an athlete made a particularly impressive or flexible move. “I heard he does this at a different JV girls’ volleyball team every week. It’s so great that he’s taking time out of his busy schedule to promote under-appreciated sports like this.”
According to witnesses, Drake remained in his position throughout the entirety of the match, only emerging at the very end to ask the young players if they had any interest in creating a group on Snapchat.
