How To Support The NFL And Other Small Businesses This Saturday

In the midst of an ongoing pandemic that has impacted small businesses all across the country, it is especially important to support the NFL this upcoming Saturday.

We all have a special place in our heart for Tonya’s Deli right around the corner or Dave’s Auto Shop, where Dave kindly fixed your brake pads at cost while you were a broke college student. But if there’s an organization that deserves a community to rally around it, it’s the NFL. For years, the NFL has not only had to compete with big box stores, but also online retailers. These entities have all but destroyed our beloved mom-and-pops.

Let’s change that this Saturday by patronizing the independently owned businesses of Main Street, and also the NFL. Whether you’re in Buffalo or Green Bay, be sure not only to buy apparel from your local team, but from all 32 teams — in sizes small, medium, and large. It’s the least any member of the community can do.

If you aren’t convinced, please consider everything a business like the NFL has done for our communities. Not only has it shed light on obscure diseases like breast cancer, but it has brought countless jobs and parking lots to towns across the country. It has provided endless alcohol and greasy foods to our neighbors and given them venues for yelling their slurs at out-of-towners. Not to mention, it has given so many athletes a chance at a career, even though the rest of America has moved past physical labor in favor of a service-based economy.

And always remember the best way you can help the NFL is through viewership. Instead of going to other small businesses such as bars and restaurants to watch one of our games, maybe stay home and watch it alone. Don’t even invite anyone over. Get as many televisions as you can on the NFL as possible. After all, behind every great small business is a very favorable TV deal, and wouldn’t it feel good to help a local institution like NFL get the best one possible?
