Is Big Ben Still Pittsburgh’s Best Option At Beating Legal Cases?

When it comes to winning legal defense cases, no one in Pittsburgh does it better than the Steelers’ own Ben Roethlisberger. Fans still remember their excitement at the turn of last decade, when a young Big Ben took on back-to-back sexual assault charges and beat them both! But now that he’s over 40, does Ben still have what it takes to be Pittsburgh’s number one option when it comes to evading justice?

“Ben’s always prided himself on his inability to be taken down,” stated Allegheny County District Attorney and Roethlisberger’s longtime rival, Stephen Zappala, Jr., who currently claims a 0-2 record against the elusive quarterback. “Any time a public defender fumbled a cross-examination, or a victim’s testimony was getting triple-covered by corroborating witnesses, Pittsburgh could count on him to step up, deny everything, and miraculously eke out a victory.”

But there were always cracks in his armor. In 2006, the quarterback recklessly failed to get out of a citation for driving a motorcycle without a license, which should have been a routine play for a Pro Bowl quarterback such as Roethlisberger. And even in his legal glory years of 2009-2010, some argue Roethlisberger seemed a little too content to sit on the sidelines and let the backup defense attorneys make the calls for him.

Looking at Ben’s acquittal rating, though, it’s clear there’s still love here. Fans and juries alike remain impressed by his ability to go up and just take the stand, most of the time without asking permission. Roethlisberger is also still winning those outdoor, cold-weather defense cases like the one involving that public school bus full of children that nearly froze to death. And of course, everyone still remembers that legendary Hail Mary legal argument he tossed up at the end of the Sandusky trial, which both cemented his name in Canton and earned him an honorary J.D. from Penn State.

So even while fighting off critics, his own aging joints, and copious amounts of pepper spray, it’s clear Roethlisberger still has what it takes to win. At least on appeal.

Face it: There’s no stopping Big Ben, no matter how many times you try—or ask.
