Tigers Throw MLB’s First Batting Practice No-Hitter

In an effort that will be sure to go down in history as one of the club’s finest moments, Detroit Tigers’ Hitting Coach, Scott Coolbaugh completed the first ever No-Hitter during batting practice in major league history. Facing 13 different batters out of the team’s positional players not one of them managed to get a single hit off of the 53-year-old Coolbaugh.

“He had some pretty tough stuff to deal with today. Even though he only had one pitch, down the middle each time at the same speed, I just couldn’t keep up with it,” said Tigers’ Shortstop Will Castro. The closest the team got to breaking up the no-hitter was when veteran First Baseman Miguel Cabrera ripped a line-drive right towards third base, but 14-year-old bat boy, Kellen Simpson was there to make an incredible snag to rob Cabrera and the Tigers only chance at a hit during batting practice.

As Coolbaugh dealt out after out with each helpless Detroit Tiger he faced, spectators were sure  not to mention the no-no in play until the final out. “This is really something the fans need,” Chris Ilitch, “Seeing 57 fans – 10 more fans that actually stuck around for the actual game – gather around and chant ‘Coolbaugh! Coolbaugh!’ as BP came to a close with an energy we haven’t seen in a long time at Comerica Park.”

Strangely enough Coolbaugh didn’t seem too thrilled about his performance. He was seen cursing the players out when batting practice ended after he lost his perfect game and had to settle for a no-hitter because he drilled Robbie Grossman with a pitch in the back.
