31-Year-Old Running Back Put Down Following Severe Knee Injury

Sports Riot is reporting that following a severe knee injury during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game, Minnesota Vikings’ star running back Carter Williams was taken out back by Vikings’ owner Zygi Wilf and put out of his misery.

“It’s a shame, he was having a really nice night too. Wish some of our younger guys were as good in pass protection as he was,” said Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. “He’s in a better place now.”

While the process of euthanizing elderly running backs who suffer injuries has grown controversial in recent years, advocates say it’s their only option. “Not everyone can be Emmanuel Sanders and recover from an achilles tear at the age of 32,” said San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan, who’s had to put down 17 running backs during his Niners tenure (so far).

While executing non-running backs continues to be frowned upon in the National Football League, Vikings sources report that despite last weekend’s performance O’Connell is chomping at the bit for an excuse to put down Kirk Cousins.
