45-Year-Old Caddy Swore This Would Just Be A Summer Job

Despite swearing that his job at Ridge Country Club would only be for the summer in between freshman and sophomore year in high school, friends of Chet Richards say the 45-year-old man is still working the same caddy job he started that summer 30 years ago.

“He was a naïve fifteen year-old who wanted to make some money as a caddy and buy a sweet T-Top Camaro that’d help him get laid. Which he did and it did,” Richards’ best friend Dave Duffy told reporters from Ridge Country Club’s golf course, where Richards trailed behind carrying clubs. “He said it was only temporary. But nothing’s changed for Chet since 1991. He still caddies. And he still drives that Camaro. Except now he doesn’t get laid.”

Like many tragic teen stories, Richards intended to caddy only briefly, but became too addicted to the lifestyle of steady work, health benefits, and free Arnold Palmers to leave. As a result, he has lost many relationships—including two wives—to empty promises of career change.

“Sometimes you wake up and realize you’re 45 and still carrying other people’s clubs,” Richards told reporters virtually from his one-bedroom apartment. “I didn’t think I’d be doing this at this age. I was sure I’d be promoted to professional golfer by now. But I’m in too deep to start over at this now.”

Though friends and family have chided Richards for his career choice, the country club has lauded his contributions, presenting him with an honorary membership and the prestigious “Best Shoulders” award.

“Wow, it almost helps make up for all the times members cursed me out and spit in my face,” Richards said. “I just hope it’s enough to get my kids to look me in the eyes when I see them every third weekend.”
