Giants Plan To Start First Round QB Pick Sunday, Cut Him Monday

The New York Giants announced that rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart will make his first NFL start on Sunday against the Chargers. The organization also proudly confirmed Dart will be immediately cut on Monday.

The move reflects what team officials call a “G-Men operational rhythm,” in which quarterbacks are briefly installed, evaluated for signs of competence, and then immediately released into the wild.

“Sometimes you see a player and think, ‘That guy looks so good — we have to cut him immediately,’” general manager Joe Schoen said.

The Giants have embraced that cycle across New York sports. Earlier this year Liberty ownership dismissed its head coach days after a playoff run. The Knicks named a street after Tom Thibodeau, then fired him the next day. In the city’s eyes, once you’re established, you’re already finished.

Analysts say Dart may simply be auditioning for his next stop. “That’s a Philadelphia Eagle if I’ve ever seen one,” one AFC scout observed.

The Giants front office views the strategy as an efficient way to provide franchise quarterbacks for the rest of the league. The expectation is that Dart will start, show flashes, and then continue his career elsewhere while New York resets its search.

Schoen defended the plan by pointing to other franchises. “The Chargers just confuse me. The drafted Justin Herbert and… still have him?”

And yet the gridiron chatter is some around the league don’t buy it. How could the Giants win a title with this belief system? “See, Eli Manning never really was ‘good,’” said Schoen, “although we did almost cut him twice.”
