Locker Room Language Taken Way Too Far When Man Mentions “Equality”

All men learn from a young age that the locker room is a sacred place, a holy shrine to masculinity. That is why it came as a shock to members of the Arena Football League’s Baltimore Brigade when one of their teammates violated that sanctity by bringing up ‘equality’ in the locker room.

“There’s nothing ‘equal’ about poisoning our communal safe space with such offensive language,” said left tackle and men’s rights activist Perry Matthews, adding that, “it’s hard not to feel marginalized by this kind of rhetoric when you’re exposed to it every single day.”

Some players pushed back on the media narrative that the team’s response is evidence of an intolerant locker room culture. “People have the wrong idea about what goes on in men’s locker rooms,” said defensive back Paul Filmore. “It doesn’t matter if you’re asian, black, white, or latino; locker rooms exist to allow men of all colors to come together and say horrible things about women.

Ugly incidents like this remind us of how far we still have to go before locker rooms can truly be considered an inclusive space, one where all men can feel comfortable sharing stories about chasing tail and pounding snatch.
