Opinion: If Shohei Ohtani Is So Good, Then Why Does He Only Play For One Team?

As a baseball fan, I’ve noticed the only thing ESPN can talk about is the “great” Shohei Ohtani. Sure, he can hit and pitch, but that’s what he’s SUPPOSED to do. Why does everyone think Shohei Ohtani is so good when he only plays for one team?

The goal of baseball is simple; to be the best. Seems pretty obvious that Ohtani is leaving a lot on the table by only playing for 1/30 of MLB teams. It’s not absurd to think that if he took at bats for every team, the “superstar” could hit 500 home runs a season, easily. But until he does, Ohtani is just another overrated Los Angeles Angel who only takes the field for one team.

The question MUST be asked, why does Ohtani only play for one team? The answer should be obvious; he’s lazy. Too lackadaisical to board 30 flights, too lethargic to take 100 at bats and throw 200 innings per week. It’s clear Ohtani doesn’t have the heart or the drive to be considered an all time great.

What’s worse is Ohtani only plays on one team in a single league. When was the last time you heard of Ohtani playing in the Japanese league, Korean Baseball League, or Little League? He’s leaving money on the table by not traveling across the world multiple times on a single night.

When it’s all said and done, call us when Ohtani lives up to his potential. Until then I’m watching the Tigers WITHOUT his participation. Overrated? Yup.
