Opposing Player Deemed Not Too Injured To Laugh At

After concluding that an injury suffered by the opposing team’s star player didn’t look that bad, hometown fans say they felt comfortable enough this past Saturday to laugh openly at the incapacitated athlete as he exited the game.

“At first, I thought it was a groin injury, so I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself. But then I saw him grab his knee and I felt like a total asshole,” said local super-fan Antonio Hudson. “A few seconds later, I started laughing my ass off after I saw him stand up and take a few steps. I mean, seriously, who would fake an injury like that?” According to Hudson, he and his friends were taken by surprise when the star player then lost consciousness and collapsed back to the ground.

Those on the court were just as confused by what was going on as the fans in the bleachers. “It was funny until I saw them bring out the spinal board, then it got serious. Spinal cord injuries are no joke,” said play-by-play commentator Hughie Marshall. “But it started being funny again just a few minutes later when he was helped off the court by his teammates. Why make all that fuss when you’re able to just get up and walk to the locker room?”

Although the opposing player’s injury was determined by the crowd to be minor, later tests revealed that the athlete had suffered two torn achilles, fourteen broken bones, and permanent loss of motor functions.
