Pardon Our Delay: George Steinbrenner – Rest In Peace – (1930-2010)
For fourteen years, we have neglected to acknowledge the passing of New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.
In doing so, we have misled our readers about Mr. Steinbrenner. Sports Riot regrets the error and would like to say: PARDON OUR DELAY AND REST IN PEACE MR. STEINBRENNER.
In fairness to us, although we didn’t say he’d died, we didn’t say he was alive either. Sort of a Schrodinger’s Steinbrenner situation if you ask us!
But we digress and apologize. This lapse in judgment is inconsistent with our values of timely, accurate reporting on the deaths, out of body experiences, alien interaction, and/or the downloading of consciousness to a computer of all major sports figures.
Further internal investigation uncovered an unpublished George Steinbrenner post from 2016 titled “TGIF George Steinbrenner.” We fully intended on publishing this open letter celebrating the Steinbrenner character on Seinfeld but scrapped the piece because the summer Olympics happened and then football season started—not to mention we needed to clean the office and remember DeflateGate?!
Sports Riot has the utmost respect for Mr. Steinbrenner, who declined to comment on this article, which is why we have retracted our silence from wishing Mr. Steinbrenner a peaceful eternal rest. To rectify this error and reestablish trust with our readers, we would like to preemptively say RIP to Hank Steinbrenner (1957-2139) and the entire Steinbrenner family.
