Ragtag Group Of Fun-Loving Misfits Absolutely Destroyed By Rich, Athletic Kids
A ragtag group of fun-loving misfits from the wrong side of the tracks was handedly destroyed by a team of rich, athletic kids during last Saturday’s 12-Year-Old Division Little League game.
Though the Underdogs trained all summer by attending countless sleepovers and coming-of-age adventures, it seemed no amount of friendship could overcome their lack of discipline, resources, and talent.
“I thought we had the perfect team: the loudmouth, the chubby one, the pipsqueak, the smarty-pants,” said one Underdog teammate. “I assumed a tall, athletic and well-equipped team wouldn’t stand a chance against us.”
“The other team had real equipment, uniforms and parents,” said the one minority Underdog player who had struggled to do his signature thing all game. “We’ve been up against a lot of things together—bullies, mysteries, puberty—but never this.”
The Underdog’s experienced a brief glimmer of hope after the second inning when the pitcher gave an inspiring speech that rallied the team to their feet.
“I told them that while the Hotshots might have taken the lead on us, surely we’d have an epiphany where everything our coach said clicked, and we’d get our dramatic comeback, the chubby one would kiss a girl, and the pipsqueak’s foster home would come out of foreclosure,” said the Underdog’s pitcher.
“My team had heart,” added Steve Pennant, a gruff, recovering alcoholic on the road to redemption and the Underdog’s court-mandated coach, “but apparently heart can’t compete with genetics and money.”
The Underdogs plan to return next year for a direct to DVD rematch.
