Texans Fumble Ball In Open Field In Brave Tribute To Uvalde Police

The Houston Texans took a solemn moment out of their opening drive to fumble the ball without even being touched by an opposing player, in what spectators called a stirring tribute to the Uvalde Police Department officers’ actions at the tragic shooting that unfolded next to them.

Running back Dameon Pierce broke free of the first attempted tackle and seemed to be in an easy situation to do his job and score a touchdown, but instead opted to slow down in the open field and drop the ball on behalf of Texas Law enforcement everywhere. This prompted immediate wild applause from teary-eyed fans, as a ‘Back the Blue’ banner unfurled over the endzone and two decommissioned F-14s that had been bought by the Texas State Police flew over the stadium.

“As soon as ‘Proud to be An American’ started playing over clips of those Uvalde officers heroically defending themselves against that barrage of reporter’s questions, I started bawling,” said local fan Marianna Ortiz. “It really was moving.”

Ortiz then added the fact that the other team members deliberately waited for over an hour before attempting to recover the ball was an “especially nice touch.”

In a press conference after the game, Texans owner Janice McNair praised her team for their brave display of solidarity, noting that even though the fumble cost the team the game and they might solidify the top pick in next year’s NFL Draft, it was really about the larger symbolic victory that Texans remained known as the Team of Law and Order in the eyes of its fans.
