Where Are They Now?: The Champion 1953 Yankees

In 1953, the New York Yankees won their 5th consecutive World Series, a record that still exists today; we caught up with some of the players from the team to see what they are up to today.

Mickey Mantle

After Mantle retired he made several poor business decisions before striking gold appearing at baseball card shows selling memorabilia and signing autographs for a fee. Today he spends his days restfully in a beautiful and ornate urn.

Yogi Berra

Berra enjoyed several years of managing big league teams after retiring from playing and he did many humanitarian acts including opening a museum and learning center. Now he enjoys the peace and quiet he has found in his brass urn.

Billy Martin

After hanging up his spikes Martin had several stints as the Yankees manager, many of which were cut short due to butting heads with owner George Steinbrenner. Martin now coaches little league softball at a small field in upstate New York… Just kidding he is totally in an urn.

Phil Rizzuto

Rizzuto had a long and successful broadcasting career after retiring from the game; even coining the famous phrase “Holy Cow.” Following his cremation he requested his family feed his ashes to cows in honor of his famous catch phrase; but they haven’t gotten around to it yet and he instead is in a very classy urn.

They all still get together once a year to celebrate their accomplishments when their families bring their urns to the same mantle.
