Yikes: ‘Jeopardy!’ Tapped Kirk Cousins To Guest Host But None Of The Contestants Are Listening To Him
An attempt to replicate the success of guest host Aaron Rogers with Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is backfiring spectacularly for “Jeopardy!” this week after the show’s contestants are failing to listen and pay any attention to the football star.
From side conversations and talking over the host to outright antagonism, “Jeopardy!” contestants are behaving in ways the show has never seen before. “Cousins is losing the them right from the start when he asks to open the first ‘Jeopardy!’ round with a prayer huddle—and things go downhill from there,” says show producer Mike Richards, who noted that Cousins keeps trying to call audibles during questions and is failing to complete many of the categories. “It’s like he has no idea how the game is played.”
Show announcer Johnny Gilbert echoes Richard’s complaints. “It takes about two minutes before everyone’s eyes are glazed over. I’ve never seen anything like it, and I’ve worked here for 37 years,” Gilberts says, adding that players are talking to each other, doodling, listening to music, and openly laughing at Cousins. “At one point, he tried tossing a microphone at them to grab their attention, but his throw missed and took out a PA.”
Fellow Viking and “Jeopardy!” fanboy Adam Thielen is not surprised by Cousins’ lackluster performance, telling reporters Cousins brings the same level of inspiration and enthusiasm to ‘Jeopardy!’ as he does to the field. “I speak for the team and America when I say we’d take Dr. Oz over Cousins as both a host and quarterback any day,” he said on social media.
Though Cousins’ “Jeopardy!” ratings have been minuscule compared to Rogers’ ratings, Cousins is set to receive millions of dollars more for his stint than his Packers counterpart—with rumors of a three-week guest host extension.
