Female Figure Skater Much Colder Than She’s Letting On
Complaining the frigid temperatures caused by the large ice rink were largely responsible for his team failing to win the gold medal, mixed pairs figure skater Lance Stinson believes his female partner was much colder than she was letting on.
“That ice was too cold. There is no way to prepare for how difficult those temperatures make performing, and I think it was really affecting my partner,” Stinson told reporters rink side while donning a beautiful, temperature appropriate full body jumpsuit and fur cape that he wore for their performance.
After a strong start, the pair was docked several points when Stinson dropped his partner, Claudia Thorenson, several times due to his uncontrollable shivering. Thorenson, who was baring a lot of skin wearing a single-shoulder leotard, skated flawlessly in the eyes of the judges.
“I was a little cold, so I know she had to be very cold. It’s a scientific fact that women get colder than men because they aren’t as tough as us,” Stinson explained through his chattering teeth.
Thorenson would later go on to win gold in the female singles, which she dedicated to Stinson who was seeking treatment for what he self-diagnosed as early signs of hypothermia.
