NFL Draft Promises To Be Another Year Of Teams Selecting Players In Order

With the 2021 NFL Draft lurking just around the corner, fans won’t have to wait much longer for what promises to be another thrilling year of teams selecting players in a set order.

“I love getting a group of friends together every year and cheering on the gradual progression of picks through the on-screen ticker,” said Jake Miller, a Cleveland Browns fan. “There’s nothing better than pizza, beer, and seven rounds of Roger Goodell announcing the names of players teams are selecting for the purposes of owning their negotiating rights.”

Dennis Milbank, a friend of Miller’s, noted that the current structure of the draft helps inform fans of what’s happening.

“It’s a good strategy to have an order to the draft so that all the teams aren’t trying to draft players at the same time,” he said, adding that this year’s draft order is different from last year’s and could even be different from next year’s. “It’s quite amazing they can pull off rotating between teams like that year after year.”

Miller and Milbank immediately turned off coverage though when the Jacksonville Jaguars disrupted the draft order by accidentally trading the No. 1 overall pick for the rights to QB Blake Bortles before signing him to a six-year, $70 million deal.
