Opinion: I Could Have Made That Play

With the game on the line in the fourth quarter, my favorite NFL team tried to execute what should have been a simple play: The quarterback tries to QB sneak it into the end zone for a touchdown on 4th down. It’s not that hard, right?

But then the ball went into the hands of the other team, and I’m sure you’re thinking what I’m thinking at this point: I could have made that play. It was a simple 1 yard run while being smothered by three defenders who correctly anticipated the play call.

And you know some of my friends said I couldn’t make that play, but I could. The quarterback shouldn’t have held onto the ball that long. He should have scored correctly, despite being hit by men that can tackle a Jeep Cherokee. Also, let’s keep it 100%, he shouldn’t have let the opposing team’s hostile sellout crowd impact his performance in that Nashville stadium. He’s gotta know this game is 50% mental, 50% physical, and 50% determination.

After reviewing the brief clip of this play on Twitter, it’s even more obvious. I can see the endzone, it’s right there! He had plenty of time to make this split-second decision, the exact same decisions I’ve made through my life in pick-up football or even Madden.

When I tweeted, “even I could have got that,” five people liked it, so I have some credibility. A local sophomore quarterback retweeted it, and he’s going to Tulane for academics, so take that “friends.”

Sure, I know the typical pushback is “so why don’t you do it, then?” Well, I don’t really have time to “be” on the roster because some of us have jobs and families. Plus, I’m putting a lot of my energy into the Olympic trials for water polo because I’m pretty sure it’s literally just throwing a ball while standing in water, and I can do that blindfolded in the shower.
