BMX Freestyle Event Adds BMX Butterfly And BMX Backstroke
We here at “Xtreme Hella Gnarly Biking Magazine” are stoked to announce that the BMX Freestyle event will be spiced up with Butterfly and Backstroke categories this summer at Tokyo. That means no more plain-Jane, vanilla-runs with bikers sitting forwards and their limbs all facing the correct directions dominating the show.
Instead, expect all the excitement of the swimmer’s backstroke and butterfly to explode onto the BMX scene. Trust us, you’ve never seen anything like it. Unless you watch swimming. In which case, picture Michael Phelps swimming through the air on an alloy bike with 20” wheels. Yeah, it’ll be just like that.
We’re not the only ones pumped for this, either. Just ask BMX legend Dave Mirra. “It’s about time! We all know the Freestyle has already been perfected by household names like Matty Glub and Trevor Djordsplat. Let’s amp things up! I tried the Butterfly and Backstroke today, it was hella sick,” Mirra said through a full-body cast at the ICU.
Ryan Nyquist can’t wait to see the bikers in action, too. “I just don’t understand how the mechanics of these are going to work. My mind is bent thinking about it. I’ll have to tune in,” Nyquist said in a ringing endorsement.
So be sure to catch the sweet events Bob Costas is calling “confusing, inadvisable, and super dangerous” this summer in Tokyo. And if these are an awesome success, BMX will bring in new extreme events like the BMX High Dive, because why should swimming hog all the gold!
