Cleverness Of Vegas Knights Wearing Off
Failing to hide their shame, the so-called marketing gurus from Golden Vision Inc, who coined the name for the NHL expansion team in Las Vegas, the Golden Knights, have collectively admitted the cleverness of the name is wearing off.
“While we were working on the pitch we had a lot of great ideas: the Vegas Aces, the Vegas Jackpots, the Vegas ‘What Happens Here Stays Heres.’ But none of them had that cleverness we were looking for,” said head of marketing John McDermott. “Then it hit us. The Vegas Knights! It was fun, catchy, and clever. You know, a play on ‘nights!’ We thought, this is perfect.”
The ownership agreed with them, green lighting the name and immediately ramping up production on merchandise. “It was a glorious whirlwind at first, but the more I heard it the less and less I thought it was actually that clever,” an ashamed McDermott continued. “I mean, it’s something a child could have come up with.”
While the team has thrived in its early years of existence McDermott believes had he and his team come up with a better name they would have won that Stanley Cup their first season, “I mean that loss is on us. I could see it in the players eyes during the finals, they had finally thought about it and realized their team name was just some dumb pun. It wasn’t clever at all, of course they didn’t have the will to win after that.”
For their part, the local fans don’t seem to have any issue with the cleverness of the team name, as Las Vegas resident and hockey enthusiast Paul Harris told us, “I never put that together but honestly we’re just happy to finally have a professional team of our own… to bet on.”
