Heartwarming: MLB Player Cites ‘The Sandlot’ As Inspiration For Releasing Ferocious Dog On His Neighbor’s Kids
Speaking to reporters in the locker room after throwing his second no-hitter of the season, Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitcher Dexter Robinson discussed many of the events that have shaped him both as a human being and as a baseball player, including his favorite film, The Sandlot, which he cited as his inspiration for releasing his rabid, 7-year-old mastiff on his neighbor’s kids.
“This movie taught me so many valuable life lessons,” said Robinson as he held up a worn out The Sandlot DVD case, “For example, if you sic a really scary dog on a group of pre-teens, anyone who survives the mauling is basically a lock to one day become a legendary baseball player, just like Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez did in the movie.”
Robinson, who exclusively autographs baseballs as ‘Babe Ruth’ as a tribute to the film, claims he has successfully spread his love of the 1993 cult classic to his teammates.
“Before I got here, guys used to celebrate big wins by hitting up nice restaurants or clubs,” said Robinson, smiling widely in his red and yellow striped t-shirt, the same shirt worn by Hamilton “Ham” Porter throughout the film. “Nowadays, it’s nothing but chaw, spinny carnival rides, and vomit. That’s what team bonding is all about.”
