NFL Offseason Update: Kyle Shanahan Blows 25 Point Lead During Family Yahtzee Night

With NFL training camp kicking off in just under a month, players and coaches are taking the opportunity to spend the last leg of the offseason with their families. For 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, that means blowing a catastrophic 25 point lead during Shanahan family Yahtzee night.

“It was honestly remarkable,” said Mandy Shanahan, Kyle’s wife. “In the first half of game night, Kyle was unstoppable. Every dice roll he threw was exactly what he wanted.”

It looked like the 49ers head coach was well on the way to his first Shahahan family Yahtzee championship. All he had to do was run the dice. But in the second half, something changed.

“Dad took his foot off the gas,” lamented Shanahan’s daughter, Lexi. “He started playing conservative, rolling not to lose instead of rolling to win. He didn’t use Julio Jones at all. I saw the opening and knew I had a chance.”

With every roll, Lexi erased more and more of her father’s lead. By the end of regulation, the two were all tied up. For the first time in its 51-year history, Shanahan Yahtzee night was going to overtime.

“Normally, going to overtime would be one of the most exciting game nights ever,” said Kyle’s father, two-time family Yahtzee night champion Mike Shanahan. “But all we could think about was how much Kyle was leading by in the first half. I mean, was he really about to choke this hard?”

With just one Yahtzee roll from Lexi’s hand, that question was answered. Lexi had won, and Kyle was on the other side of the biggest comeback in Yahtzee night history.

“It was pretty easy,” said a victorious Lexi. “Tom Brady called me and just told me exactly what to roll.”
