The Other Side Of The Story: Our Exclusive Interview With Ja Morant’s Gun

Ja Morant has been embroiled in non-stop controversy since entering the League. Culminating in suspensions after brandishing a gun, multiple times, on Instagram Live. Sports Riot managed to track down the offending gun in question to get the other side of the story:

Sports Riot (SR): Thank you for joining us. Can you tell us what you believe was going through Morant’s mind on those occasions he shared to social media?

Ja Morant’s Gun (JMG): *BANG*

SR: Of course, Morant has said he assumes full responsibility. Is that just posturing, or is he finally at the right maturity level to lead the Grizzlies?

JMG: *BANG*

SR: I get you’re tired of being asked that, but it’s a relevant question. Top of mind for every fan in Memphis.

JMG: *clk* *whirrrrrr* clk*… *BANG*

SR: Do you keep up with the League while Ja and the Grizzlies are “at home”?

JMG: *BANG* *BANG*

SR: Do you have Celtics in 5, tonight?

JMG: *clk* clk* *BANG!*

SR: Back to Ja, There have been complaints of a racial element coloring the media’s coverage of him. Fair or unfair?

JMG: *CONSIDERED PAUSE* You know, that’s really hard to answer. James Baldwin once said, “People are trapped in history, and history is trapped in them.” Which I think certainly applies to the American media. We have journalists taking courses now on countering racial bias but ultimately, I think it’s impossible to divorce the current ideological strivings of modern reporting from the training these people receive studying past models of journalism which were created by an upper-class, all-white elite, who were themselves enmeshed in a culture of white superiority. Of course, some journalists are doing better at it than others. But then again, it’s really all about truth and perspective. Your truth is different from my truth and everyone else’s. If only everyone could see everyone’s truth and perspective all at once, together. That’s what we’re collectively, ultimately shooting for.

SR: Very informed and impressive response.

JGM: Thank you.

SR: Anything further you’d like to mention?

JMG: *BANG* *BANG!*

SR: We didn’t know you were promoting a charity. What a noble cause!
