Trevor Lawrence’s Adherence To COVID Guidelines Leaves Jags Wondering If He’ll Be A Good Fit In Florida
Trevor Lawrence’s decision to attend the Cleveland NFL draft remotely in deference to COVID guidelines has left Jacksonville players wondering if the Clemson star will be a good fit in Florida.
“That kind of blatant regard for COVID safety doesn’t fly here,” said Jaguars wide receiver D.J. Chark. “Down in Florida we value coming together as a team—whether it’s on the field or in a small, poorly ventilated space open-mouth kissing strippers. We’ll see if Jacksonville can embrace someone like him.”
Other Jags players echoed Chark’s concerns. “If Lawrence behaves like this now, what other pro-social things will he do?” said running back Ryquell Armstead, who was hospitalized twice for COVID last year. “Will he drive a jet ski sober? Wear a condom? Not fistfight the cashier at Golden Corral? Good luck winning the hearts of this town!”
Coach Urban Meyer, however, is optimistic Lawrence’s actions are a one-time mistake. He also noted that Tom Brady made a seamless transition to the Florida lifestyle of downing margs on a speed boat and throwing priceless sports memorabilia over open water after facing similar skepticism.
“He’ll be a reckless Florida scumbag in no time,” Meyer said. “It shouldn’t take too long, after all, the boy is from Georgia.”
